Johnny Depp has reportedly signed a deal that marks his return to the big screens.
Following Amber Heard’s allegations in 2018, the Hollywood star was kicked off the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie and pretty much canceled from the film industry.
Now, after his legal win in the blockbuster Depp-Heard defamation trial, the actor is slowly seeing his fortunes change.
Amid rumors that Disney wants to see the actor back in the Pirates of the Caribbean’s latest installment, it has been confirmed that Depp landed the main role in the French movie ‘La Favorite.’
The French period piece will feature Depp as King Louis XV. The actor will star alongside Maiwenn Le Besco who will not only play the king’s mistress but also direct the movie.
Despite previous reports suggesting otherwise, the movie is not being financed by Netflix, Variety reported.
The movie, which will be filmed in France, is being produced by Why Not Productions, a French production company headed by producers Pascal Caucheteux and Grégoire Sorlat.
While Netflix may not be behind the decision to cast Depp, the streaming giant reportedly reached a deal to stream the movie in France after its 15-month presence on the big screens.
The news comes amid rumors that Disney is willing to offer Depp $301 million to return to Pirates of the Caribbean as Captain Jack Sparrow.
It is believed the alleged offer was made in response to Depp’s previous statement in which he said he would not return even if they offered him $300 million.
It was previously revealed that Depp was canceled from the movie’s sixth installment as a result of his ex-wife’s allegations against the actor.
