Rumors claiming that Johnny Depp is set to reprise his iconic role in the Pirates of the Caribbean’s sixth movie have flooded the internet.
Beloved by his fans, Johnny Depp appeared in all five pirate movies by Disney before being axed from the franchise after ex-wife Amber Heard’s domestic violence allegations.
Since then, Depp and Heard appeared in court where the jury ruled in the actor’s favor and found Heard guilty of defamation, prompting rumors that Disney may try to get the actor back in the franchise.
“Johnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is scheduled to start filming at the beginning of February at a top secret location in the UK,” a source told The Sun while claiming that the title of the upcoming installment is ‘A Day At The Sea.’
“Everything is in the early stages and there is still no director attached to the project, which is being called A Day At The Sea. Johnny is expected to do a test shoot in early February before the production gets fully underway.”
The insider added: “A call sheet has been distributed among those in the know. Bruce Hendricks, who worked on the first three films, is named as the Executive Producer on the new project.”
While Depp’s fans appeared to be overjoyed by the news, the claims were soon refuted by DailyMail.com.
According to the publication, sources confirmed that the information regarding Johnny Depp’s alleged return to the Disney franchise is incorrect.
If true, this means that the embattled actor will not appear in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie and that Disney will stick to their previous commitment to bring in “new energy.”
