Kate Middleton, previously known as the Duchess of Cambridge, will now be known as the Princess of Wales, King Charles III confirmed during his first address to the nation.
She is the first member of the Royal Family to hold the title since the late Princess Diana.
Kate will now hold the titles the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
A source said that the new Princess of Wales “appreciates the history associated with this role but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path.”
In King Charles III’s first televised address to the nation, he confirmed that his son Prince William would inherit the title Prince of Wales and his wife would become Princess.
“Today, I am proud to create (William) Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty,” the King said.
“With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given,” the King continued.
A source said to Mail Online that Prince William and Princess Kate are now focused on “deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales.”
In his speech, the new monarch also paid tribute to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, saying he wanted to “express his love” for the couple.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ children will become Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The King also paid tribute to his wife, the former Duchess of Cornwall and now Queen Consort Camila, for her unwavering support.
