Kim Kardashian has been accused of damaging and stretching Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress.
Back in 2016, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! bought the crystal-studded nude dress, which Monroe wore as she sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to former president John F. Kennedy in 1962, at an auction for $5 million.
This year, the KUWTK star borrowed the dress for Met Gala after losing an astounding 16 pounds in just a few weeks to fit in the iconic piece.
Since the Met Gala, however, the socialite has been accused of stretching the dress and causing some of the crystals to fall off or loosen.
The allegations were brought forward by The Marilyn Monroe Collection who shared ‘before and after’ pictures of the dress and implied that some crystals are now missing while others are hanging by a thread.
“So much for keeping ‘the integrity of the dress and the preservation.’ @ripleysbelieveitornot, was it worth it?” one viewer wrote.
“Not only the stretching around the zipper, but if you look at the upper-ish left side, there are several crystals missing!” another said.
The third suggested: “Damage has been done, and it can’t be fixed. The fabric is torn. Imagine what could have happened to it if Kim had worn the dress even longer. I’m so sad to see this.”
As of this writing, we cannot confirm the authenticity of the ‘before and after’ photos or the allegations made by Marilyn Monroe Collection and other critics.
While Ripley’s and Kardashian have yet to comment on these accusations, a source close to Kim insisted the iconic dress displayed signs of wear and tear before the 41-year-old TV personality even tried it on.
Calling the allegations false, the insider told DailyMail.com that Kim only wore the dress for less than 15 minutes on the red carpet before switching to a replica to avoid causing any damage.
