Imane Khelif just won gold for her country at this year’s Paris Olympics.
The tournament was full of backlash and controversies regarding the Algerian and her gender identity. Now, she’s stepping up to the plate and vows to get payback after filing a formal legal complaint with prosecutors in France.
The star boxer is urging them to investigate the significant amount of online harassment she’s faced throughout her journey in France.
Khelif won the gold medal for the women’s welterweight category in France against China’s Liu Yang.
She’s been in the spotlight after being subjected to online harassment on social media by many who questioned her gender.
She claims that there’s a lot of misinformation online, resulting in an unspecified eligibility test by a controversial and discredited boxing association.
As a result, the aftermath led to many suggestions that she was not a female and the same was true for her fellow component from Taiwan, Lin Yu-ting.
Khelif’s lawyer Nabil Boudi mentioned in another complaint how such legal action was necessary because his client was subject to great abuse and harassment throughout the event. She was blasted with hateful comments when that should have never been the case.
