A lion has taken the life of a 14-year-old girl outside Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi.
The news was confirmed by the Kenya Wildlife Service on Sunday. The incident reportedly took place on Saturday in a ranch to the south of Nairobi National Park.
The attack was witnessed by another teenager who raised the alarm and notified the authorities about what had just happened.
The organization shared how the rangers came into action shortly after that. They followed the tracks to hunt him down and were said to be near the Mbagathi River. This is where the tragic remains of the child were found.
The KWS rangers and response team were quickly mobilized, and they managed to track down the beast after seeing bloodstains spread all over.
The girl’s body was found with injuries across her lower back region, as per the conservation agency.
The lion was not spotted at the scene when the girl’s remains were found. Now, a trap was set in place to capture the beast, and teams were deployed in the area alongside the usual safety measures.
The KWS explained how the 54-year-old man was also killed by an elephant in Kenya’s Nyeri County on Friday. Heartfelt condolences were shared with the bereaved families, and it continues to work closely with local law enforcement and communities to improve the safety of the people living there.
