The man who gained fame for living inside an iron lung for a whopping period of 70 years has reportedly died at the age of 78.
Paul Alexander was better known as Polio Paul who was left in a state of paralysis after getting polio in the year 1952. His age at that time was just six years old.
Paul did what many could never do and that includes living inside a giant machine that assisted him in breathing since he was so young. Moreover, as per reports arising from the Guardian, he was said to be busy playing outside at his residence in Dallas, Texas when his head started to pound.
His mother checked him and told him to go to bed as she assumed he was not getting enough rest. But with time, his condition got extra severe until he reached a point where he couldn’t move cough, or even swallow.
And then when his mother rushed him to the doctors, they gave her the terrible news about how he couldn’t be saved. But then one healthcare professional examined him and rushed him to the OT to carry out a procedure to help with his breathing. This gave him a little chance at life but he was no longer able to breathe on his own.
Despite recovering from Polio, his body continued to be in a stage of paralysis from his new downwards and therefore could stay inside an iron lung.
