Terrifying reports have spoken about a brush fire breaking out on New York’s Long Island that ended up burning nearly 400 acres and prompted an immediate reply from up to 80 fire departments.
There were 600 personnel involved, but the recent update by the state governor is that 80% is now contained as per reports from Suffolk County Officials.
The Westhampton Pines Fire erupted during the afternoon hours on Saturday and is now fully contained. Meaning it’s no longer visible, sources shared.
Speaking to NBC News, they claimed that tomorrow would be a new day and they hope to have full control over the incident that has been causing serious panic across the state with travel advisories issued.
‘The fire is not the same threat that it was before, but it’s alarming’ – another source mentioned.
As per New York Governor Kathy Hochul, there is a ban on most kinds of outdoor camping, farming, and cooking in the area of Long Island. This includes parts of Hudson Valley as it continues to face very dry conditions.
Backyard pits, small campfires, and small scale cooking fires under contained conditions were exempt from the rule.
The ban will reportedly stay in place until a yearly statewide prohibition on outdoor fires, which would begin starting March 16 as per a new statement from the governor’s office.
Winds and downed trees fueled the Westhampton Pines Fire, and that gave rise to huge plumes of smoke that took over the area as per Romaine.
