Mamma Mia 3 is reportedly in the works.
The third installment of the beloved franchise is being developed, producer Judy Craymer told Deadline while revealing the upcoming movie is still in its “earliest stages.”
Teasing the fans of Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Craymer also revealed that the third movie could see the return of Meryl Streep.
In the first movie, the legendary actress portrayed Donna, a central character whose passing took place years before the plot of the sequel.
“There is a story there, and I do think Meryl should come back — and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna,” Craymer added.
“I don’t want to over-egg it, but I know there’s a trilogy there.”
The third Mamma Mia! movie would likely also see the return of several different cast members including 37-year-old Amanda Seyfried who played Sophie in the two movies.
“Every single person in that movie would say ‘yes’ in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other,” Seyfried told Collider back in 2020 as she insinuated that she would be more than willing to come back for another installment.
“That’s what we talked about last time, like did we ever think that we’d end up here again on an Island in Croatia? So yeah, I wish there was a Mamma Mia 3.”
The Hollywood actress, however, did point out one problem when it came to making the third movie happen.
“I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie. Because we’d have to use Super Trooper again and we’d have to use Mamma Mia again and have to use them in a different way,” she added.
