A man has made the headlines after clocking over two million kilometers or one and one quarter million miles on the car he bought decades ago.

72-year-old Graeme Hebley from New Zealand has worked as a delivery contractor for newspapers ever since taking on the job in 1968.

Back in the year 2000, he bought a 1993 Toyota Corolla that had just 50,000 miles on its odometer.

Since then, the delivery man used his new car to travel huge distances across the country on a daily basis.

After two decades of working six days a week, Hebley racked up over 2 million kilometers or 1.24 million miles on his stubborn Toyota.

As the gentleman said, he believes the car could run “forever,” whereas it still operates without issues despite having the original engine and transmission.

“If I hadn’t worked on it, I wouldn’t believe it. I wouldn’t believe it could do two million without something going wrong,” mechanic John Sherman, who checks Hebley’s car every two weeks to ensure it is safe to drive, said in an interview with New Zealand Herald.

He went on to credit the owner’s constant maintenance and frequent servicing for the car’s longevity.

According to Sherman, Hebley’s Toyota is most definitely a record-holder at Guthrie’s Auto Care where staff haven’t seen any other car that would exceed 500,000 miles on its odometer.

“In my whole career, that is the highest I have seen,” Sherman concluded.

Meanwhile, Hebley remains in love with his precious Corolla and believes that the car will outlast him.

“How could you not love this car? Whatever you do, it just bounces back,” he says.
