According to neighbors, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s luxury mansion in California stink so bad.
Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan Markle, 37, decided to resign from their duties as senior Royals from the United Kingdom and decided to moved and live in the United States two years ago.
According to several reports, a putrid smell is said to have inundated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $15 million, nine-bedroom, 19-bathroom mansion. Neighbors in the upscale Santa Barbara community “disgusted” by the pungent fragrance have reportedly complained about the issue to no avail.
A local resident on The Mirror’s interview said: “It smells like offal that has been rotting in the sun. it makes my stomach churn. I’ve seen lots of homeowners closing their windows when it wafts over.”
However, the smell is reportedly caused by the nearby Andree Clark Bird Refuge which is a 42-acre saltwater marsh. This area is one of the largest wildlife refuges in Santa Barbara and the water can become “stagnant” leading to an odor.
Cameron Benson, water manager of the City of Santa Barbara said: “Water can become stagnant there. The odor issues are sporadic and sometimes they are worse in some conditions. The Bird Refuge does sometimes emit an unpleasant odor. But it does not smell now, and has not for some time.”
The foul stink is said to have hit the area in Montecito, California, which is also home to Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Orlando Bloom, and Katy Perry. Officials have said that the stench could last as long as autumn when improvements are in the pipeline.
This is not new for Prince Harry and Meghan, last year it was reported that the couple has been living minutes away from a legal weed factory base in Santa Barbara, California.
Neighbors have made a string of complaints, sparking the company to install new “odor control systems”. A resident said that the stench was so bad that they had to pull over while driving along the road.
And in the past, The Duke and Duchess have caused a stink of their own when they were accused by the Barbareno-Chumash tribe of watering the sprawling gardens with Native American “holy water”.
Tribe leader Eleanor Fishburn said Harry and Meghan were beautifying their gardens with water from Hot Spring Creek, which is considered sacred. She said: “They water their lawn with holy water. For us, this water is a pure water, a holy water, and a ceremonial water.”
“As a native population, it is sacred for us and the idea that people in the area are using water from springs to water their gardens is something that doesn’t sit well with us,” she added.
Prince Harry and Meghan quit the Royal Family in early 2020, as part of Megxit. They now have two children, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain silent despite the news that Camilla will become Queen Consort when Charles is eventually made King.
The couple does not use social media, and instead, uses their freedom from royal duties to champion a range of causes and businesses.
