As Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 70th year on the throne, a royal superfan has also celebrated it in her home.
Margaret Tyler, 78, from Webley, spent her Saturday looking at memorabilia photographs and books about the Royals as the Queen became the 1st British monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee.
Tyler who has met Her Majesty 4 times, said: “I spent yesterday with my children, and I was thinking and talking about the Queen while sitting in my Jubilee room. I spend that day remembering everything amazing she has done.”
Tyler has 4 children and 4 grandchildren. She grew up a single child alongside two royalist parents and said ever since she is a child, she had already begun to adopt her love for the British monarchy.
And as she celebrates her 78th birthday this week, she spent the day looking and shopping for Royal’s memorabilia, hunting, and craving for more treasures.
She was just eight when Queen Elizabeth II was first coronated – and recalled being “broken-hearted” when her father wouldn’t buy a TV so she could watch.
When Tyler is asked why she is so dedicated to these kinds of things she said that “the Queen is already 95 and it is just so amazing and inspiring what she does for us and for the country,” and added “She’s there for us no matter what happens.”
As Tyler grew up, she said that she only became more dedicated to the Royals and it almost occupied her mind all the time. She got the chance to meet the Queen 4 times and she describes the Monarch as a kind and sweet ruler. She also said that she met Princess Diana weeks before she passed away.
Margaret said: “I was like jelly after meeting her. The most recent time, I ran all the way home to tell my daughter on the phone. I was puffing and panting so hard, she thought I was having a heart attack!”
The superfan has been decorating her home with pictures, trinkets, and pieces of memorabilia for more than 4 decades. She already owns hundreds of books and pictures and some more obscure items, such as cardboard cutouts of her Majesty and Royal corgis. Even in front of her house she already put some featured decorations to the point it has been mistaken for a museum.
She said: “I had one lady knock on my door asking when I open the museum – I was shocked. Another came and asked if I’m a member of the Royal family myself because of how I decorate my house. I couldn’t believe it.”
She said her neighbors already know who she is so they drop memorabilia items on her doorsteps because they know how much she appreciates them. She also said that she doesn’t even need to buy everything by herself.
She explained: “I don’t ever sell anything – I just can’t. I look after it all and I always want more even though my house is bulging at the moment.”
Queen Elizabeth came to the throne when she was 25 in 1952. She is spending her Accession Day privately at Sandringham estate in remembrance of her father King George VI, whose death marked the start of her reign as the Queen.
This will be her 1st jubilee without her husband Prince Phillip, who died at age 99. The national celebration of the Queen’s 70th year sitting on the throne will be celebrated during a special four-day bank holiday weekend from June 2, 2022, to June 5, 2022.
