Jonathan Majors, who was once considered a rising star in Hollywood after receiving recognition in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, has been dropped by Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Corporation.
Only hours after the guilty assault verdict, Marvel and Disney have decided to part ways with the 34-year-old actor as he was convicted of ass*ulting Grace Jabbari, his ex-girlfriend.
It was on March 26 when the former couple got into a heated argument in the back of a black Cadillac Escalade on their way to the actor’s apartment.
During the trial, the jury heard testimony from Jabbari, who said things between her and Majors suddenly turned physical after she saw romantic text messages on his phone, leaving her in excruciating pain.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office also released an audio recording and text messages in which the actor tried to persuade Jabbari against going to hospital.
In the audio recording, he tells her she needs to act like Michelle Obama and Coretta Scott King because he is a ‘great man’ who is ‘doing great things, not just for me, but for my culture and the world.’
Majors and Jabbari met in 2021 on the set of Marvel’s Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania. The star was playing the time-traveling villain He Who Remains, also known as Kang the Conqueror, while Jabbari was working as a movement coach.
The movie was set to lead to more projects between Marvel and Majors, including both seasons of the Loki series and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
It is not clear whether the character of Kang the Conqueror will be recast but a report from the Hollywood Reporter said that filming had not started.
