Matthew Perry’s cause of death has been confirmed after the actor’s sudden death at 54.
The 54-year-old comedian, who was best known for playing Chandler Bing in the sitcom Friends, died on Saturday from drowning after a presumed heart attack.
Sources close to the investigation into the sudden death now told DailyMail.com that Perry “drowned in his jacuzzi” at his home in Los Angeles.
It was also revealed that first responders arrived at the scene and found the actor dead following a call about a potential cardiac arrest.
Insiders also claimed that no drugs were discovered at Perry’s home and that foul play is not suspected though the case currently remains under investigation by the robbery-homicide detectives.
Perry was found unresponsive in his jacuzzi at around 4 pm on Saturday. He could not be resuscitated despite the paramedics’ best efforts.
A source close to the troubled actor, who previously opened up about his battle with addiction, also said everyone was left in shock by the devastating news.
“Everyone is in a total state of shock. People are crying on the phone and struggling to accept this news,” they said, DailyMail.com confirmed.
“It’s no secret that he struggled with drugs and alcohol for years but the last time I spoke to him, which was within the last few weeks, he seemed to be in a good place.
“He was upbeat and sounded sober and positive. He’d been to rehab 17 times and nearly died from opioid abuse but he was someone who was sincere about taking his life, and his sobriety, one day at a time.”
The insider went on to say everyone is hoping the actor didn’t relapse while branding Matthew as a “genuinely lovely guy” who was the first to “welcome newcomers to the group.”
“We are all struggling to come to terms with this terrible news,” they added.
