Matthew Perry reportedly had Friends creators cut one episode from the show, his co-star revealed.
In the wake of the 54-year-old actor and funnyman’s passing, an extra who was cast in Friends broke the silence and recalled the time Perry allegedly demanded one episode be cut from the show entirely.
The episode was supposed to take place in Las Vegas after Chander got into a huge fight with his on-screen wife Monica Geller, played by Courteney Cox.
According to Lisa Cash, she was hired to play a hotel worker in the episode titled The One in Vegas: Part 1. She also claimed Perry’s character Chandler Bing was set to have an affair with her and cheat on Monica after their big fight.
Perry, however, confronted the showrunners and asked for the episode to be cut out of the series because he feared how it would affect his character.
“The scene was Chandler and Monica were arguing In Vegas about Monica having lunch with [ex-boyfriend] Richard and in our script, Chandler goes up to the hotel room and orders room service and I bring it up as a hotel worker,” Cash explained, TMZ reported.
“And we end up talking and laughing and connecting and Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character.”
Lisa continued: “We had rehearsed it … and the day before we were supposed to shoot it in front of a live audience, I was told that [Perry] went to the writers and said the fans will never forgive [Chandler] for cheating on Monica.
“He was probably right. That would have possibly changed the course of the show.”
Cash went on to say that the cheating scene was then entirely cut from the show and that her part was cut. She also revealed she was then given the role of a flight attendant in another scene.
