Matthew Perry has come under fire shortly after racking up sympathy for opening up about his decades-long battle with opioid addiction.
The 53-year-old Friends star recently sat down with ABC News for an in-depth interview about his life including the numerous times he went into rehab and the time he ended up in a coma with just a two percent chance of survival over his addiction to drugs and alcohol.
Promoting his upcoming memoir titled ‘Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing’ in an interview with The New York Times, Perry also revealed he had spent over $9 million on attempts to get sober over the last few decades.
While his revelations sparked lots of sympathy, the Friends star now came under fire after displaying repeated “bitterness” towards beloved Matrix star Keanu Reeves in his memoir.
In a bizarre passage obtained by Page Six, Perry appeared to take a jab at Reeves by questioning why he got to live while their common friend, River Phoenix, died from a drug overdose in 1993.
“Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” Perry wrote.
While the intention behind the bizarre comment remains unclear, this isn’t the only time Perry projected disdain over the John Wick star, whom he apparently never even collaborated with, in his memoir.
In another passage, he remembered his friend and Almost Heroes co-star Chris Farley, who died at the age of 33 following an overdose, before unexpectedly bringing Keanu into his narrative.
“I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out [Farley died],” Perry recalled before adding: “Keanu Reeves walks among us.”
The bombshell memoir is set to hit the shelves on November 1.
