Matthew Perry Reveals The Staggering Amount Of Money He Spent Trying To Get Sober


Matthew Perry has come forth with more heartbreaking revelations in his recent interview with The New York Times.

The 53-year-old Friends star who was in and out of rehab for decades of his life has opened up about his battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol in his upcoming memoir titled ‘Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.’

Promoting his upcoming book, the actor told the publication that his numerous attempts to get sober cost him as much as $9 million over the years.

“I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober,” he claimed in an interview that comes after 18 months of sobriety.

The shocking claim comes just days after a trailer for Perry’s interview with ABC surfaced.

In the bombshell interview, Matthew opened up about his opioid addiction and revealed he had to undergo 14 surgeries on his stomach.

He further insisted he went into rehab 15 times while being left with just a two percent chance of survival during his lowest point in life.

“The doctors told my family that I had a two percent chance to live. I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that,” he said in the trailer as he recalled the time he was in a two-week coma.

Perry also revealed that out of all of his Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green in the sitcom, was the one to reach out to him the most during his struggles.

Explaining his decision to speak out, the troubled actor said he hoped he could help other people by sharing his story.

“I wanted to share when I was safe from going into the dark side of everything again,” he said.

“I had to wait until I was pretty safely sober – and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction – to write it all down. And the main thing was, I was pretty certain that it would help people.”
