Prince Harry reportedly turned down his brother’s offer to hold peace talks in the months leading to Megxit.
Meghan and Harry quit their lives as working royals and flew across the pond back in early 2020 after running into a crisis that allegedly left the Duchess of Sussex feeling suicidal.
While “heightened tensions” between the Sussexes and other royals were allegedly already noted in 2019, even Prince William, Harry’s brother and one of his closest allies, wasn’t able to get close enough to the couple to mend the rift.
The claims were made by royal author Valentine Low in his new book titled Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown.
As Low insisted, William asked Harry for a meeting the day the ITV documentary ‘Harry & Meghan: An African Journey’ was broadcasted.
According to the author, it was Meghan and Harry’s comments in the documentary that made William realize that the couple “were in crisis.”
In the interview with ITV, Harry suggested he and his brother, William, were “certainly on different paths,” whereas Meghan thanked the reporter for asking her how she was “because not many people have asked if I am okay.”
“The day after the documentary was broadcast, William whatsapped his brother to ask if he could come and see him. This put Harry and Meghan into a spin,” Low wrote, The Times reported.
While Harry first agreed to meet with his brother, he later turned down the offer over fears that news of the nature of their meeting would be leaked to the press.
“At that point, Harry said don’t come. He was so concerned that William’s team would leak the visit to the press that he would rather they did not come than risk it getting into the papers,” Low added.
Following months after William’s failed effort to mend the rift between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the royals, the Sussexes left the UK and eventually settled at their $15 million mansion in Montecito, California.
