In his book titled ‘Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors’, investigative journalist and author Tom Bower made a series of shocking claims concerning the former actress and her life behind the scenes.

Speaking of the Duchess of Sussex’s past relationship, Bower insisted that the then-rising star saw her role in the TV series Suits as a possible “get-out card” from her first husband, Trevor Engelson.

Meghan and Trevor met in 2004 but didn’t marry until late 2011. While the first years of their relationship were bliss according to Bower, things started shifting after Meghan made a breakthrough by landing a major role in Suits.

According to Bower, Meghan was happy with the news when she was told that the production of the series was moved to Toronto in 2010, allowing her to distance herself from her partner.

While the author claimed that Meghan “could commit herself to Trevor” and was willing to travel between LA and Toronto to be with him, she liked the producers’ decision because she “did not want to be possessed” by her then-husband.

“Leaving Los Angeles and Trevor, Meghan told the producers, was not a downside,” Bower wrote.

The author continued: “If necessary, Suits was her get-out card from the relationship.”

Bower also insisted that Trevor eventually proposed to Meghan after sensing the emotional rift between growing. Marriage, however, didn’t fix things and the couple went their separate ways just two years later in 2013.

Speaking of his allegations, Bower said his book is a result of his interviews with dozens of people who had knowledge of the duchess.

“She [Meghan] made it pretty clear to all her friends and people who work for her not to talk to me, so it was quite an uphill struggle but I got enough people to speak to me, more than enough, I got about 80 people,” Bower explained on Good Morning Britain.
