Meghan Markle has once again managed to spark a debate and raise doubts after claiming a very influential woman begged her not to give up on her activism.
The 41-year-old Duchess of Sussex spoke out about her activism in the new episode of her Archetypes podcast while sitting down with actresses and influencers Jameela Jamil and Shohreh Aghdashloo.
In the episode titled The Audacity of the Activist, Meghan recalled the alleged time an influential woman urged her not to stop fighting for women’s rights just moments before she tied the knot with Prince Harry.
“It reminded me of a message that was shared with me just a few days before my wedding by a very, very influential and inspiring woman who for her own privacy, I won’t share who it was with you,” the duchess said when the trio discussed Tehran protests over the horrific treatment of women who break strict hijab rules in Iran.
She added: “But she said to me, ‘I know that your life is changing but please don’t give up your activism, don’t give up because it means so much to women and girls.
“And I kept doing the work for women and girls because it matters, yes, but also because she encouraged me to do so.”
Meghan also insisted that women who dare to present big ideas and their passion for activism are “often deemed audacious” while taking “all the blame” and getting “no credit.”
Though the mother-of-two refused to mention who her secret admirer was, it was quickly speculated that it could have been either Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, or Michelle Obama.
Both Winfrey and Williams attended the former actress’s wedding at Windsor Castle back in 2018. Others suggested that the words of encouragement might have come from the former first lady Michelle Obama who has also been friends with Meghan for several years.
