Meghan Markle is reportedly expected to receive an honorary award at the 2022 Men of the Year celebration.
The Men of the Year is an annual event organized by GQ that features and celebrates “the year’s cultural high points, packed with interviews, profiles, and videos featuring the actors, athletes, musicians, politicians, designers, and more” according to the magazine’s online description of the event.
This year’s GQ Men of the Year Awards is set to take place at the Tate Modern gallery in London, UK, whereas the Duchess of Sussex is expected to attend the event in person.
Meghan, however, won’t be just attending the awards but is also expected to take home an honorary award for her charity work.
The claim was made by The Sun which quoted a source telling the publication that “Meghan has been offered one of the top awards of the evening so it’s a massive coup for her.”
“She already has a close relationship with GQ due to her friendship with Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief Edward Enninful which is also owned by Conde Nast,” the insider said.
“Edward is very much seen as a friend rather than a business acquaintance.”
Sources also suggested that the event was postponed from September 7 to November 16 to give Meghan and Harry more time to prepare should they choose to attend.
The organizers of the event, however, officially postponed the event earlier this summer without providing any specific reasons.
“Due to their mini tour of Europe Meghan wouldn’t have been able to attend if awards went ahead on their original date in September,” the insider added.
“Talks about the evening were already happening before The Queen’s passing so no doubt things will have to be re-evaluated to make sure it’s as respectful as possible.”
