Meghan Markle has come under fire after taking another aim at the Royal Family during an episode of her new podcast.
The Duchess of Sussex on Tuesday released her first Archetypes episode in which she discussed a number of matters and issues with the star guest and her close friend, tennis player Serena Williams.
In her first episode – titled The Misconception of Ambition – Meghan talked about alleged double standards women face in the modern world when it comes to ambition.
As the former actress insisted, she never personally felt “the negative connotation behind the word ambitious” until she began dating Prince Harry and moved to the UK to start her life as a working royal.
“Apparently ambition is a terrible, terrible thing. For a woman that is, according to some. So since I felt the negativity behind it, It’s really hard to unfeel it,” the duchess said in a presumed jab at her in-laws.
She further insisted that she had suffered great pain “behind closed doors.”
The statements appear to echo the allegations Meghan made during her bombshell interview with Oprah when she claimed she was left feeling suicidal while living as a working royal in the UK.
After her recent comments went viral, Meghan was slammed for taking another aim at the royal family despite continuing the use of her title as the Duchess of Sussex in her public appearances.
Among the critics is award-winning royal biographer and commentator Angela Levin who accused the 41-year-old of another “smack in the face for Harry and a punch towards the Royal Family.”
“She would still be a D-list celebrity if she had not married a prince. She aligns herself with them [Serena Williams and upcoming guest Mariah Carey], but they have done brilliantly and overcome difficult childhood, whereas she has married a prince and spent a lot of money,” Levin said.
“She thought it was normal to be ambitious and only when she started dating Harry did she realize that it was not welcomed. My goodness, that is a smack at Harry and a punch to the Royal Family. Harry told her about life in the Royal Family, but she obviously did not want to listen.
“The Royal Family is about ambition in sense of duty and giving. It is not about getting to the top.”
The royal expert went on to blast Meghan saying that everything is “so hard” for her even though she got more than most people ever do when she married into the royal family.
Taking aim at the duchess following her controversial ambition remarks was also royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams who said there is nothing wrong with ambition as he argued that many royals are ambitious.
“She undoubtedly feels she has been singled out. The interview was about The Misconception of Ambition, but the implication here is that after she dated Harry she feels she was picked on. She was ambitious beforehand and did well in Suits but that is not top league television,” he said in an interview with MailOnline.
“There is surely nothing wrong in being ambitious and being royal, in fact the role positively encourages a member of the royal family to be ambitious to help those in need.
“Diana was very ambitious, her charitable work and her public profile were synonymous, ultimately fatefully so, but she did immense good.”
Fitzwilliams added: “Meghan argues ambition is discouraged in women and gives no acknowledgement of the enormous advances made by the #MeToo movement. This is simplistic. There is nothing wrong with self-promotion if the results, as with Diana, benefit others.”
