Meghan Markle was reportedly subjected to vile and disgusting threats to her life during her time in the UK.
Though the Duchess of Sussex is no stranger to controversial statements and comments which raised plenty of eyebrows at Buckingham Palace, few people know that she was showered with death threats during her brief life as a working royal.
As the Metropolitan Police’s former counter-terror chief Neil Basu claimed, the 41-year-old mother-of-two faced “very real” threats that would make anyone “feel under threat.”
The bombshell interview comes after Mr. Basu announced he’s stepping down from his position as Assistant Commissioner of Specialist Operations following three decades at the department.
Asked if the threats against the former actress were real, the police insider said: “Absolutely, and if you’d seen the stuff that was written and you were receiving it… the kind of rhetoric that’s online, if you don’t know what I know, you would feel under threat all of the time.”
Basu went on to claim that Meghan was threatened more than just once and that the people behind the threats were prosecuted.
“We had teams investigating it. People have been prosecuted for those threats,” he added.
Britain’s highest-ranking ethnic minority officer also spoke out against racial and social injustice as he suggested he is proud to be ‘woke’ if that means standing up to these issues.
“Are you alert to issues of racial and social justice? Yes I am. And if that is the definition of woke, I’ll wear it as a bumper sticker every day of the week,” he added.
“And by the way, every serving police officer, let alone a Chief Constable, better believe that too.
“We serve all of the public without fear or favor, regardless of who they look like, not just the people we like.”
