Meghan Markle subtly implied that Prince Harry might not have passed the UK citizenship exam because it is so hard.
Recalling the time she was studying for the test that applicants for UK citizenship need to pass, the Duchess of Sussex suggested some of the questions were too hard even for her husband.
The bizarre revelation was made in Meghan’s latest Archetypes episode titled ‘Good Wife/Bad Wife, Good Mom/Bad Mom’ in which the 41-year-old mother-of-two also talked to actress Pamela Adlon.
After arriving in the UK in 2017 and marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan began preparing for the “so hard” UK citizenship test believing she and her husband would stay in the country to serve as working royals.
“That citizenship exam is so hard. I was studying for it [the test] and I remember going, ‘Oh my goodness.’ I would ask my husband, ‘Did you know this? Did you know this?’ And he would say, ‘I had no idea,’” she admitted in her podcast.
While it is not clear whether Meghan actually took the test or not, experts believe she never became a British citizen because she didn’t fulfill one of the main requirements.
To qualify for spousal citizenship, Meghan should have lived in the UK with Prince Harry for at least three years. The pair, however, left the UK in December 2019 and officially quit as working royals in January 2020, just over a year after their high-profile royal wedding.
Speaking of the citizenship exam, the 45-minute test consists of 24 multiple-choice questions about British laws, history, culture, and the legal system. The tests sometimes also feature questions about the Royal Family.
The test has a 75% pass mark and can be taken an unlimited amount of times as long as the applicant pays around $60 per try.
