Meghan Markle has once again managed to raise eyebrows after saying she often finds herself “cowering” because she doesn’t want her words to be perceived negatively.
Surprising her fans with yet another set of bombshell statements, the Duchess of Sussex released her latest Archetypes podcast episode titled ‘Upending The Angry Black Women Myth.’
During the episode, Meghan sat down with Issa Rae and Ziwe to discuss the struggles Black women who choose to express themselves and share their opinions allegedly face in today’s society.
Discussing the swearing-in of Ketanji Brown Jackson, the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States nominated by President Joe Biden, the trio praised her “restraint” in hearings led by Republican senators.
“There is a pressure to do that not just for herself, but to do that for all of us,” Meghan said.
“Which is the same way, you’re saying you’re carrying yourself and what I think… You make a choice.
“You make a choice to be as grounded as possible in what we share, because of all the things that are going to be said no matter what.”
At another point in the episode, Meghan went on to insist that “telling people what you need does not make you demanding” as she dismissed the myth that Black women who speak out are “angry.”
While she’s never been short of bold allegations and comments herself, the duchess insisted she feels like she can’t say what’s on her mind without people perceiving her words in a negative way.
This external suppression allegedly often makes her “cowering and tiptoeing into a room” when she finds herself in ‘work’ situations.
“The thing I find the most embarrassing is when you’re saying a sentence and the intonation goes up – like it’s a question. And you’re like, ‘oh my God, stop stop, like whispering and tiptoeing around it,’” Meghan said.
“Just say what it is that you need. You’re allowed to set a boundary. You’re allowed to be clear, does not make you demanding. It does not make you difficult, it makes you clear.”
