While the pandemic may have served as a barrier for many, there’s no stopping the world’s richest men who appeared to have benefited more than anyone else.
In case you’re wondering what we’re talking about, well, this new report of shall we say survey by Oxfam says it all.
According to the anti-poverty group, 10 of the world’s richest men saw their fortune more than double during the pandemic. And by that, we mean wealth that is almost multiplied by six times.
From Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos to Bill Gates and more- the names of the world’s most wealthy people were included. And via these statistics, it was almost as if a brand new billionaire arose amongst them all, each day.
But with the good facts comes the ugly and there’s no denying that the pandemic really affected the rest of the world in the most adverse and devastating manner imaginable.
On average, nearly 160 million individuals were forced to enter into a state of poverty during the pandemic as stated by Oxfam recently. These facts were reportedly verified by the World Bank as well as the Global Wealth Databook by Credit Suisse.
The news comes as the charity calls the world’s governments to come forward and impose a mega one-time 99% tax upon these billionaires, where the funds could be used to expand things like the manufacturing of vaccines for the poor.point 312 |
This is in relation to a global effort to assist in combatting all forms of inequality that have been further widened due to the pandemic.point 114 | point 118 | 1
But how did these billionaires get so much richer? Well, it’s all thanks to the great number of financial stimuli which assisted in pumping up shares, as mentioned in a group report.
