The mother-of-two who tragically died after being shot during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade in Missouri has been named.
Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a Kansas DJ, is being remembered as ‘a very loving, caring, and devoted mother,’ his grieving brother Beto Lopez told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
“We have tragic situations like this one that occur unfortunately way too often and a lot of time individuals get lost as just statistics or numbers,” Lopez said.
“She did a lot for this community and the Kansas City area, raising money for a lot of charitable events and organizations, and it’s something we’ll be very proud of forever,” he added.
Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said that three gunmen opened fire inside Union Station shortly after the victorious team left the stage.
Graves confirmed during a press conference that the gunmen have been detained, adding that the motive or what led up to the incident is still being investigated.
Even though there were over 800 police officers, one victim died and 22 others were left injured.
According to the Kansas City Star, Lopez-Galvan died during surgery for a gunshot wound to her abdominal area.
Taking to Facebook, the radio station said: “It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs’ rally. Our hearts and prayers are with her family.
“This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community.”
The mother’s close friend, Manny Abarca, also said in an interview on Talk Today: “I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to be on her show and [participate] in community events throughout Kansas City with her and her family. So she is a large loss to our community.”
Abarca added: “But also, she was a mother. She was a friend and neighbor. These are the types of folks that, tragically, are victim to what some, you know, use as a hobby, collecting so many guns.”
