Millionaire YouTuber MrBeast has hit the headlines after sponsoring cataract surgeries for as many as 1,000 visually impaired people.
Known also by his real name Jimmy Donaldson, the 24-year-old content creator is no stranger to major feats and stunts that helped him rack up millions of followers and made him one of the most renowned YouTubers in the world.
As part of his latest project, MrBeast paid for cataract surgeries of one thousand people while partnering with the non-profit eye care organization See. The influencer also directly donated $100,000 to the not-for-profit.
On top of all this, the young content developer also donated $50,000 to one person’s college fund while buying another a brand-new Tesla. He further gave away $10,000 to some of the patients.
“I just haven’t been me for the last 62 years. I can actually see your face,” one patient ecstatically told Jimmy after finally being able to see.
Another man thanked MrBeast for giving him the opportunity to see his beloved son again.
“I can see everybody’s facial features now. It’s a little blurry with my tears coming out,” he said while fighting back tears.
“Seeing him, seeing his face, you know, that’s what I miss the most.”
Among other patients was also a young boy named Jeremiah who was blind in his right eye ever since birth.
“I don’t even think this is real, like I’m waiting to wake up,” the boy expressed after removing his bandages to be able to see in his right eye for the first time.
Another patient was a teenager known as Satchel who was born partially blind and suffered near-complete blindness after an accident.
Not only did MrBeast help restore Satchel’s sight but he also surprised him with a brand-new Tesla after the teen revealed he had been stuck at home for most of his life after the accident.
It is believed that the patients’ sight was restored through the procedure known as Phacoemulsification – a technique that See specializes in.
While the exact terms of the deal remain unclear, cataract removals through Phacoemulsification can cost up to $6,000 for those without insurance.
