The 52-year-old billionaire said Twitter would be rebranding effective immediately, whereas the platform would be known simply as X in the future.

According to the Tesla boss, the site is now accessible via the link X.com. The letter X would also be replacing the platform’s iconic logo which featured a blue bird for many years.

The rebranding is one of many controversial decisions Musk made since purchasing and taking over the platform last year.

While users initially thought Musk’s bizarre announcement was a prank, the news was confirmed when the new URL X.com began redirecting visitors to the platform.

“I am not sure how it will be called now! Post? X-post? Xost?” another pondered.

A third fumed: “What good reason could you possibly have for doing this now? You’re literally just being annoying.”

The rebranding announcement comes just two weeks after the SpaceX CEO proudly launched a new artificial intelligence company called xAI.

While Musk previously warned humanity about the consequences that unregulated AI development could have, he is now set on developing a “maximally curious” artificial intelligence.

“If it tried to understand the true nature of the universe, that’s actually the best thing that I can come up with from an AI safety standpoint,” Musk said.

“I think it is going to be pro-humanity from the standpoint that humanity is just much more interesting than not-humanity.”
