Terrifying reports are speaking about the death of ten newborn babies after a fire broke out at the hospital’s neonatal unit.
The incident took place in northern India with another 16 victims said to be battling for their lives after the horror.
The fire broke out during the later hours of Friday at a hospital located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This is approximately 280 miles south of Delhi.
Footage from the tragic scene showed charred bodies with beds and walls inside as rescue efforts tried to save what little remained.
More details into the tragedy revealed how the firefighters did not arrive at the scene until 30 minutes after the call for immediate help was made.
Officials shared how the blaze spread in seconds through the ward where 55 infants were getting treatment. Babies rescued from the fire were only a few days old. They were put side by side on another bed in a safe location inside the hospital.
The staff hooked their tiny arms to I/V drips as worried parents panicked and demanded answers about their child’s health status after the news.
Ten infants had been killed and seven of their bodies were identified, the state’s deputy chief minister confirmed in a heartbreaking statement to families. More investigations are taking place to determine the exact cause of the fire.
