The current economic uncertainty and downturn have taken a toll on many people’s lives, including so many families around us.
Therefore, families in the United Kingdom are left with no decision but to send their children to school without any lunch money. And that’s just so heartbreaking for one lunch lady at a school.
She claims that she never signed up for the job to see young kids starve. That’s why it’s just heartbreaking for her to deny some young ones food when they show up without any money to eat.
The dinner lady who works for a school located in the northern part of England says the days are really tough on her. She is being forced to deny lunches to poor students without money because that’s the school’s instructions. But it’s really taking a toll on her because as a mother herself, she can only imagine the pain.
“Around 10 to 15 young students a day don’t get served lunch. It’s just so heartbreaking for me to say no to them.
They sit quietly and walk away while their friends enjoy meals at the same table as them. I wish I could do something for them but I can’t”- she revealed during an exclusive interview for a local media outlet.
The current rate of inflation is spiraling to new highs and schools need to understand that. But at the end of the day, they’re also running their own business, she says.
Energy bills and huge costs related to food have left parents in a state of absolute financial turmoil. And that has taken a toll on young kids that are left with no choice but to go hungry, she continued.
While the woman chose to remain anonymous, she was seen taking part in a rally called ‘enough is enough’ and that’s when she broke down into tears.
“I am spending the same amount of time taking food away from kids as I’m spending serving them. I didn’t sign up for this!”- she explained.
