A renowned celebrity-owned brand has reportedly been slammed for making use of a size 16 mannequin to display its workout clothing.
The incident has managed to spark major debate as many bashed the label for promoting the theme of obesity instead of body positivity.
A presenter from GB News made sure plenty heard her out when she highlighted the issue on social media, forcing critics to step in and give their two cents on the matter that appears to be on so many people’s minds.
47-year-old Isabel Oakeshott put up an image of the large-sized mannequin in the window display of Regent’s Street’s outlet of Fabletics. For those who may not be aware, this is the renowned athleisure brand founded by star actress Kate Hudson.
Meanwhile, the journalist began her rant by mentioning how something that appeared so flabby did nothing but promote a dangerous health condition like obesity.
However, others stepped in to defend the brand, referring to the display as a step towards inclusivity and body positivity.
The news presenter’s message stated, “This is what obesity appears like. The flabby curves have been highlighted against that hideous green-toned velour. This so-called body positivity movement is certainly not inclusivity but it’s so dangerous,” she went on to add.
This particular outfit on display was a velvet bomber jacked in lime-green tone, alongside a sports bra and a set of matching leggings which came in velvet fabric too.
In such a short span of time, Isabel’s post on Twitter managed to attract many people’s attention and the matter had soon turned into a fiery debate.
Some viewers held the opinion that although the lime green did appear hideous, they were happy to see decent-looking exercise attire for those who struggle with sizes.
On the other, many held the opinion that the size of a mannequin doesn’t define anything and that the news presenter seemed to be stirring up controversy for no reason.
