96-year-old Dick Van Dyke is opening up about his personal life like never before seen.
Dyke very candidly shed light on how much he feared people would call his 50-year-old wife, Arlene Silver, a gold-digger.
The celeb said that the fact that he has a 46 year age gap in his relationship is something that people find hard to digest and despite the criticism and negativity across the board, he tries not to let it get in between the two of them.
“It’s no surprise that I felt my fans would scrutinize my relationship with her”- Dyke explained while giving a recent interview to Closer Magazine.
“I was sure there would be an outcry about how a gold digger had married an old man but no one ever took it that way”- he continued.
Van Dyke has an estimated fortune worth nearly $50 million and he first met his wife Arlene Silver at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in the year 2007.
During that time period, he was 81 and she was just 35 years old.
Silver was hired as a makeup artist for the event and she also spoke in the interview with Closer, reminiscing the exact moment that she put her eyes on her man.
“The first thing I asked him when he introduced himself to me was whether or not he was the same guy from the film Mary Poppins”- she laughed.
Over the years, the couple’s relationship blossomed and they very quickly went from friends to lovers and it was obvious that marriage was on the cards.
Last month, the duo celebrated their wedding anniversary celebration and till today, they continue to be in so much love, just like how their relationship started.
“The bond we share is like no other. It’s an attitude and I love how she can go with the flow. She adores singing and dancing and I think she’s an absolute delight for me”- he added.
