Actress Whoopi Goldberg has confirmed that Will Smith will not have his Oscar Award stripped despite him breaking the Academy’s code of conduct.
According to local media reports, Whoopi insisted on Monday via a public statement release: “We are not going to take that Oscar away from him.”
Will Smith reportedly let his emotions get the best of him as he stormed on stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock for joking about his wife’s bald head.
Ever since the startling incident went viral after being broadcasted around the globe, Will has reportedly issued a public apology.
The 53-year-old actor took to his social media account on Instagram to send out a public apology where he called his behavior not only unacceptable but also inexcusable.
Not only was the public apology aimed at Chris Rock but it was also directed to the entire Academy as well as the producers of the show, viewers watching at home, and those attendees seated in the live audience.
On Monday, a group that is renowned for handing out the famous Oscar Awards could be seen condemning Will Smith’s actions. They were also reported as starting an investigation into the incident that left many shocked and lost for words.
Meanwhile, Whoopi assured plenty how the fallout decision of the matter would not be as dramatic as some may be expecting as calls grow for having the award taken away from him.
While speaking on the renowned talk show “The View”- Whoopi continued to defend Will Smith’s actions and tried to side with the star by stating that on some occasions, you’re left with no choice but to behave badly.
Other Hollywood stars condemned the actor’s decision to slap the comedian during a live broadcast, where some even went as far as stating that he may be suffering from mental health issues as doing something that extreme wasn’t normal.
