The parents of school shooter Ethan Crumbley have been captured following their swift getaway after they were charged with manslaughter.
After their son shot and killed four students and injured seven more at Oxford High School with his dad’s new gun, James and Jennifer Crumbley have been charged with manslaughter for failing to keep the firearm secure from the minor.
Shortly after the charges against the couple were announced, Jennifer and James disappeared. Before making a getaway, they reportedly also withdrew $4,000 worth of cash.
After leaving town and failing to meet the deadline for turning themselves in, the parents were declared fugitives, whereas federal authorities including the FBI and the US Marshals launched the manhunt on the Crumbleys.
Now, 43-year-old Jennifer Crumbley and 45-year-old James Crumbley were arrested while ‘hiding’ in a small art studio in Detroit just a mile away from the border with Canada.
As Detroit Police Chief James White revealed on Saturday, the authorities arrested the couple after receiving a tip from a local business owner who allegedly saw the pair going inside a building on the 1100 block of Bellevue Street.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that James and Jennifer didn’t break into the building but were helped by another person whose connection to the Crumbleys and the building in question remains unknown.
“We understand that our clients were apprehended last night although we fully intended to turn them in first thing this morning for arraignment, contrary to the misinformation that has been rampant in the media,” the Crumbleys’ lawyers said following the arrest and shortly after they insisted that the couple didn’t run away and had full intention of returning home.point 423 | 1
“Unfortunately, this case presents the most unimaginable tragedy for every single person involved, including every member of the community,” the attorneys added.
“While it’s human nature to want to find someone to blame or something to point to or something that gives us answers, the charges in this case are intended to make an example and send a message. The prosecution has very much cherry- picked and slanted specific facts to further their narrative to do that.
“We intend to fight this case in the courtroom and not in the court of public opinion. We know that in the end the entire story and truth will prevail.”
