Arthur Hughes’ biological mother has shared never-before-seen photos of the young boy who died at the hands of his father and stepmother.
6-year-old Arthur succumbed to serious head injuries after being subjected to systematic abuse by his father, Thomas Hughes, and the man’s girlfriend, Emma Tustin.
Following the boy’s premature death, Arthur’s biological mother, Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow, spoke out in a statement read out by her mother. Olivia is currently serving an 11-year sentence over the killing of her partner back in 2019.
Since the conviction of Arthur’s father and stepmother, the grieving mother also shared a series of never-before-seen photos of the young boy.
In the old pictures, the little angel is seen smiling from ear to ear while enjoying his time with his mother who delivered a touching statement through the mouth of her mother, Madeleine Halcrow.
“He was just a child, he had no-one to talk to, no one to ask for help when he was scared and needed protecting the most,” Labinjo-Halcrow expressed.
“My son’s bright blue, effervescent eyes lost their sparkle and they weren’t smiling anymore. They took his sparkle and his naivety from him and then they took him from this world.
“A child, my child, my little love defenseless, trusting and nothing but loving was killed. His short life was stolen – he will never see another Christmas, another birthday.”
The heartbroken mom went on to recall the final moments she had spent with the young boy before he was taken from her forever.
“He was the most excited I had ever heard him. He knew he was going to see me soon. He asked how many packets of drumstick squashies I had saved him. I told him he could have as many packets as he wanted as long as he ate his sausage, mash and peas first,” Olivia added.
“He giggled his usual mischievous giggle and said ‘OK mum, I promise.’ He never got his Drumstick Squashies and I never got to remind him just how beautiful he was or how much he was loved.”
Speaking out after Tustin was found guilty of murder and after Hughes was convicted of manslaughter was also Joanne Hughes, Arthur’s grandmother from his father’s side.
“Arthur was the sunlight in all of our lives. He brought joy, laughter and love to all of us and his death has turned our lives into a perpetual grey. He constantly remains in our thoughts and is never forgotten,” she said of the bright young boy.
