In pictures from the scene, rescue boats could be seen surrounding the aircraft that was left floating off the coast of Kaneohe Bay in rainy weather.

Following the incident, Peter Forman revealed that the “shorter than usual” runway combined with bad weather was likely the cause for the unfortunate landing.

“The pilot probably didn’t put the plane down exactly where he wanted to on the runway. It’s probably a combination of all those factors put together,” he said, Hawaii News Now reported.

Since the plane’s fuselage appeared to remain completely intact after the crash, it is believed that the plane plummeted to the sea at low speed.

Meanwhile, Gunnery Sgt Orlando Perez also confirmed that the intelligence plane in question was a Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft.

The 737 lookalike is also produced by Boeing and happens to share many parts with the popular commercial jet.
