Passengers aboard a Southwest Airlines flight that was bound for Tampa were seconds from enduring a major catastrophe.
According to reports from local media outlets, the airplane descended to nearly 150 feet above sea level even though it was four miles away from the runway.
The incident took place a few days back and involved a Boeing aircraft that was just one year old that left the city of Columbus Ohio at 4 pm.
It was all set to land in Florida at about 6:10 but then the flight was slightly delayed due to some serious weather conditions.
On that note, it was set to land in Tampa but the weather was not clear there either. There was a lot of rain and strong winds being reported.
The plane had been rerouted to another runway usually not used by commercial airplanes at Tampa International Airport but this was being used due to poor weather conditions.
The plane cruised across Tampa Bay, just 150 feet above the water. This was the altitude that was a little more than the wingspan of the 737 MAX 8.
Thanks to the last-minute intervention of the control tower that made the jet realize how close it was to the water and could crash, many feel a fatal incident could have arisen.
