JUST IN: Devastated Wife Of The Pogues Star Shane MacGowan Speaks Out Following His Death At The Age Of 65


The Pogues star Shane MacGowan has passed away in his home in Dublin at the age of 65.

The singer-songwriter, who was best known for his festive song Fairytale Of New York, was surrounded by his wife and family when he passed away ‘peacefully,’ his heartbroken relatives said in a statement.

His grieving wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, 57, has now revealed that he spent the last months of his life watching Father Ted.

Speaking to The Sun, Clarke said: “So he wouldn’t get bored we brought a little DVD player into Shane and friends have been giving him presents of classic movies on DVD.

“But the thing he won’t stop playing is the ‘Father Ted; boxset. Shane watches that all day long and can’t stop laughing.”

MacGowan was first rushed to the hospital in December due to viral encephalitis. He still managed to wish his fans well and ‘all the luck in the world.’

He said at that time: “Hi friends, I’m sitting here suffering from encephalitis. The light is killing me. But I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year and Happy Christmas and many more.”

He added: “All the luck in the world and all the love. Happy Christmas and Happy New Year, love Shane.”

His wife had been sharing updates about his health journey and had announced when he was finally released from the hospital.

“Shane got out of the hospital! We are deeply and eternally grateful to all of the doctors and nurses and staff at St Vincent’s it’s the best! And special thanks to Tom Creagh and Brian Corscadden for your help.”
