Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will most likely feel “excluded” and devastated after being uninvited from Palace’s reception, the couple’s friend says.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, a source reportedly close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that Palace made a “beyond bonkers” move when they decided to uninvite the Montecito couple from the high-profile event.
Buckingham Palace, which reportedly invited Meghan and Harry to the “reception of the century” at first, appeared to make a full U-turn when they uninvited them.
It is believed that the reason for the change of heart was that Buckingham Palace insisted that only working royals were to host the prestige reception that will be attended by 1,000 VIP guests from around the world.
“It is beyond bonkers if they’re not there. Everyone is coming in from around the world to pay their respects to the Queen,” a friend of Meghan and Harry said.
The couple’s exclusion from the reception comes shortly after Prince Harry’s uniform was stripped of the late Queen’s ‘ER’ initials for a vigil at the Her Majesty’s coffin.
While both Prince Andrew and Prince Harry were initially banned from wearing their military uniforms, Palace agreed to let Harry wear his at the vigil held by the Queen’s eight grandchildren.
It was later revealed, however, that the ‘ER’ initials, which stand for Elizabeth Regina and represent the longest-reigning British monarch in history, were removed from Harry’s uniform even though Prince Andrew was permitted to wear the Royal Cypher at an earlier vigil.
As Harry’s friend told the Times, the young prince was left “heartbroken” by the “very intentional” move that saw his grandmother’s initials removed from his uniform.
