Prince Harry might have gone home feeling sad about what he had lost when he quit his life as a royal, experts say.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex finally returned to the UK to attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, things didn’t go according to what the pair got used to in the past.
Besides making just one public appearance, Harry and Meghan “didn’t have center stage seats” during the celebrations.
The pair reportedly also wasn’t invited to the balcony at Buckingham Palace from which high-ranking royals, including Prince William, Prince Charles, Camilla, and Kate, viewed Trooping the Color. Furthermore, they were seated in the second row at the Thanksgiving service.
Royal experts have since spoken out and suggested that Prince Harry might feel regretful about everything that he has given up when he decided to leave the UK for a more liberal life in the States.
“Harry has given up being Captain of the Royal Marines, who were out in force. I think he must have gone home feeling very depressed for what he has given up,” historian Hugo Vickers said.
Meanwhile, Katie Nicholl of Vanity Fair suggested the pair might have felt upset about not being allotted center-stage seats.
“I honestly think it’s [because]… they knew that they wouldn’t be in that front row,” she told The Royal Beat when speaking about potential reasons why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex only made one public appearance.
“And why did they leave the Royal Family? They left because they weren’t in the front row. I believe that’s why they weren’t at the other celebrations as they did not have center stage seats.”
Weighing in on the matter was also royal biographer Duncan Larcombe who suggested Prince Harry will remain “haunted” by the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the rest of his life.
“Those four days will haunt Prince Harry for the rest of his life. They [Harry and Meghan] were relegated to sitting behind the Duke of Gloucester [at the Thanksgiving service],” he said.
“They didn’t take part in any way, shape or form visibly at the Trooping of the Color… [Harry] will be fuming about the way he and his family were treated – if it was Prince William and the Royal Family who said, ‘you’re not coming to the royal box’, whilst other minor non-working Royals were at those events.”
