Prince Harry will be allowed to wear his military uniform during a special vigil for the Queen after Palace makes a U-turn.
After leaving his life as a working royal in the past, the Duke of Sussex was banned from wearing his military uniform at royal events including his grandmother’s coffin procession, funeral, and the Vigil of Princes.
Similarly, Prince Andrew was prohibited from wearing his uniform because he is no longer considered a working royal.
Prince Andrew, however, was allowed to wear his uniform at the Vigil of Princes, a decision that seemingly infuriated Prince Harry who has since reportedly been in a battle with the Palace over his uniform ban.
Now, the Palace extended an olive branch both to Prince Harry and Prince Andrew and announced they would be allowed to wear their uniforms on Saturday when a special vigil for the Queen takes place at Westminster Hall.
The 15-minute vigil will reflect that of the Vigil of Princes, whereas all eight of the late monarch’s grandchildren will stand in silence by the Queen’s coffin.
As journalist Omid Scobie, who co-wrote Finding Freedom, insisted, “thousands complained about the decision to ban Harry and not Prince Andrew,” prompting the Palace to come up with the peace offering.
Previously, it was reported that Prince Harry, who served two tours in Afghanistan, was left furious over the uniform ban.
“Prince Harry … will wear a morning suit throughout the events honoring his grandmother,” his spokesperson revealed after the ban was first announced.
“His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
