Prince Harry has left his Montecito home to go on a three-day solo trip to Mozambique.
According to the reports, the 37-year-old Duke of Sussex flew to the East African nation’s Indian Ocean coast to tour the Bazaruto Archipelago as part of his conservation efforts and his role as the African Parks president.
A spokesperson for the prince also revealed that Harry will host a group of philanthropists and conservationists from the United States during his short trip across the pond.
The news of the high-profile visit emerged after Harry was spotted outside Vilanculos Beach Lodge, a luxurious beach resort facing the Bazaruto Archipelago.
As it happens, Prince Harry has had special ties to the place for more than a decade, whereas he previously visited Mozambique’s coast with his ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, on several occasions.
“He was simple and humble and very polite even when guests at the hotel were coming up to take pictures,” Yassin Amuji, the president of the tourism association in Vilanculos, told MailOnline after meeting the duke for breakfast.
“I have seen Prince Harry coming to this area since he was in his Twenties and enjoying his holidays to Bazaruto. I know he will come back and hopefully bring his family next time.
“I explained to him how difficult things have been in the tourist industry because of covid and he was very sympathetic and wished us well.”
Amuji went on to confirm that Harry traveled to the archipelago by boat before touring the islands “to see the work being done by African Parks.”
As the duke previously explained, he “found hope” in Africa after his first visit to the continent when he was just 13 years old.
“Since I first visited Africa at 13 years old, I’ve always found hope on the continent.point 218 |
In fact, for most of my life, it has been my lifeline… It’s where I’ve felt closest to my mother and sought solace after she died, and where I knew I had found a soulmate in my wife,” he said in his Nelson Mandela Day speech during the UN assembly.point 211 | 1
While Meghan and Harry settled on a $15 million mansion in Montecito, the couple was previously planning on starting a new chapter of their lives in Cape Town.
Back in 2016, they also paid a visit to Botswana where several of Harry’s close friends live.
“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. We camped out with each other under the stars,” Harry said of his trip to Botswana with Meghan following their engagement.
“She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic. So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other.”
