The coach of the controversial boxer Imane Khelif has made shocking statements regarding the athlete and how she did have an issue with chromosomes that led to boxing chiefs banning her from last year’s competition.
The International Boxing Association disqualified her after carrying out a few tests that suggested how the powerful welterweight contestant was ‘biologically male’.
But the star from Algeria brushed aside all of the backlash and opposition that came her way after being given the green signal to compete at this year’s Olympics event, as they followed what her passport stated.
As per her documents, she was declared a female at birth in the birth certificate and passport. This had a lot of the controversy dying down but the gender row seems to have reignited again.
Her coach Georges Cazorla reaffirmed how the tests identified that she had an issue with her hormones and her chromosomes. This suggested that perhaps she might have the XY gender chromosomes that are typically seen in a male individual.
‘This poor girl was devastated. To learn this all of a sudden that perhaps she was not a girl was a lot to take in’- he explained in an interview with French magazine Le Point.
