Russia has fired another ‘unstoppable’ hypersonic missile at Ukraine after the first one destroyed a weapons storage site.
According to reports, a MiG-31K jet fired the aeroballistic missile at a fuel storage site on the southern side of Ukraine as it flew over Crimea.
Russian Defense Ministry’s Igor Konashenkov said that the target was the supply of fuel for Ukrainian armored cars.
Konashenkov claimed that the hypersonic missile destroyed the depot.
Kinzhal aviation missile systems with hypersonic ballistic missiles destroyed a large storage site for fuels and lubricants of the Ukrainian armed forces near the settlement of Kostyantynivka in the Mykolaiv region,” the Russian defense ministry said.
This is the second time Russia has used the missile in Ukraine. The weapon is deemed so powerful by NATO it has been called The Sizzler.
Russia claims the ‘Kinzhal’ is ‘unstoppable’ by current Western weapons.
“The Kinzhal aviation missile system with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles destroyed a large underground warehouse containing missiles and aviation ammunition in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region,” the Russian defense ministry said on Saturday.
Russian Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that Russian troops used the anti-ship missile system Bastion t attack Ukrainian military facilities near the Black Sea port of Odesa.
The Kinzhal missile is one of the new weapons Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled in 2018 but there are reports that it was used before then.
“This is the first case of the use of hypersonic weapons in combat in the world,” military analyst Vasily Kashin said to AFP.
Russia leads the hypersonics race, followed by China and the U.S.
After an arms depot was bombed by hypersonic missles, Ukraine has called on China to join the West in condemning ‘Russian barbarism.’
