Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a chilling warning to President Joe Biden and NATO, saying anyone who ‘interferes’ will ‘face consequences greater than any you have faced in history’.
Explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital Kiev as Putin announced that Russia was launching a military attack.
On Wednesday, U.S. and European officials rushed to place sanctions on Russia after it deployed troops to eastern Ukraine. The United Nations Security Council also organized an emergency meeting.
Responding to Putin’s attack, President Joe Biden said Wednesday night: “The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces.”
His statement continued: “President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering. Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way.
“The world will hold Russia accountable.”
Biden said that he will monitor the situation and will continue to receive updates from his national security team.
He plans to meet with his G7 counterparts and will speak to the public to announce the “further consequences the United States and our Allies and partners will impose on Russia for this needless act of aggression against Ukraine and global peace and security.”
He concluded: “We will also coordinate with our NATO Allies to ensure a strong, united response that deters any aggression against the Alliance. Tonight, Jill and I are praying for the brave and proud people of Ukraine.”
Putin gave a chilling warning the next day, saying on a television broadcast: “To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside – if you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history.”
