The Queen has been received at Buckingham Palace by her entire family for one final night before she lies in state.
Last Thursday, the Queen’s passing at Balmoral sent shockwaves throughout the world with millions of people rallying to pay their respects to the longest-reigning British monarch either in person or online.
Now, on Tuesday night, the late monarch’s body has been received at Buckingham Palace by her entire family including Queen Elizabeth II’s children and her two grandchildren, Harry and William.
Welcoming the Queen’s final return to the Palace were also thousands of mourners who lined up in the streets and threw flowers to honor her memory as her hearse moved slowly through London.
After the hearse reached the Palace grounds and the escorting officers paid their respects by bowing, the Queen’s coffin was received by King Charles III and his family.
While King Charles, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward awaited the Queen’s arrival at Buckingham Palace, Princess Anne, the late monarch’s only daughter, traveled with her mother all the way from Balmoral, Scotland.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting,” Princess Anne said.
The coffin has reportedly been brought to Buckingham Palace for a day to allow the Queen’s family to say their final goodbyes in privacy.
On Wednesday, the coffin will be taken to Westminster Hall where a grand military procession will take place while the Queen will be lying in state.
Members of the public will be permitted to pass by the coffin at any time of the day until the morning of the Queen’s funeral.
Our thoughts remain with the Queen’s family as they prepare for the historic funeral.
