Britons were taken by surprise as mesmerizing rainbows appeared across the sky in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
On Thursday evening, Her Majesty passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96, prompting thousands of people to take to the streets to pay their respects to the longest-reigning British monarch.
As mourners were praying and grieving for the Queen, a double rainbow appeared in the sky above Buckingham Palace. Another rainbow popped up at Windsor Castle.
Many people have since suggested that the Queen left the rainbows behind as a sign that she will always be with her people.
“There was a double rainbow outside Buckingham Palace. Some here view it as a representation of the Queen and Prince Phillip,” someone tweeted.
“The rainbow over Windsor Castle right now feels quite magical in an upsetting moment – a very sad day of loss,” another wrote.
The third said: “Truly, a Queen has passed. She left us in a beautiful rainbows over Balmoral and over Buckingham Palace.”
Meanwhile, millions of people took to social media to pay their respects to the dedicated monarch who devoted her life to serving her nation.
Among the touching tributes was also that of Liz Truss who was appointed as Prime Minister by Her Majesty just two days prior to her passing.
“We are all devastated by the news that we have just heard from Balmoral. The death of Her Majesty the Queen is a huge shock to the nation and to the world,” she said.
“It’s an extraordinary achievement to have presided with such dignity and grace for 70 years. Her life of service stretched beyond most of our living memories.
“In return she was loved and admired by the people in the United Kingdom and all around the world. She has been a personal inspiration to me and to many Britons – her devotion to duty is an example to us all.”
