The world of music and entertainment is mourning the sudden death of star rapper and DJ Khaled co-writer August 08.
The 31-year-old musician, who went by the name Ray Davon Jacobs and stage name August 08, was best known for his hit song I’m the One which he co-wrote with DJ Khaled.
Among other major achievements, August 08 wrote the likes of Fashion Week by Wale and G-Easy after being introduced to rap by his cousins.
The tragic news was announced by his family and confirmed by his record label 88rising. Currently, the cause of death remains unclear.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Ray Jacobs, also known as AUGUST 08. RIP August the kindest and most talented genius you will be missed beyond words,” 88rising expressed in a statement.
“Thank you for being an amazing mentor and a steadfast friend through all these years. We are forever grateful to you and the joy you brought in every room, through every song.
“Your energy, guidance and care gave so much inspiration and strength that will be carried on always. Thank you for helping us be brave. We will miss you so much, love you August.”
Speaking out was also Ray’s grieving sister who shared a heartbreaking message from the siblings’ mother with the rapper’s fans.
“It’s with our deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved son, brother, uncle, singer, songwriter and mentor… Ray Davon Jacobs… also known as August 08,” LaSherry McKinney posted.
“He will continue to blossom and spread his love through music. With love, August’s mom Mena.”
In a message of her own, the sister went on to say that she finds comfort in the fact that her brother “lived a full life of abundance.”
“He was able to travel the world, and touch millions of people while fulfilling his soul purpose as a musician. I am proud to have a brother who lives on through music, and I encourage you all to keep streaming his records and telling everyone how great he is,” she wrote.
“08/08 = infinity. I give thanks to you all for the calls, text, and prayers. Please keep us uplifted.”
