A restaurant is preparing to take legal action against a patron who left a massive tip for a waitress as part of the ‘Tips for Jesus’ movement.
Mariana Lambert, who works at Alfredo’s Pizza Café, was overjoyed when a customer left her a $3,000 tip using his credit card after placing an order that cost just $13.25.
Thinking her tides of fortune have finally changed, Mariana gracefully accepted the $3,000 the restaurant handed over to her after the patron left their place.
Weeks later, however, an issue arose when the customer – who has since been identified as Eric Smith – dispute the $3k charge to his credit card and demanded he gets the tip money back.
The claim means the restaurant was forced to pay back $3,000 to the customer even though they had already given the same amount in cash to Lambert.
“It really meant a lot to me because everyone’s going through stuff,” the waitress said as she recalled being in a state of shock after what appeared to be a generous gesture.
Though the Alfredo’s Pizza Café management reached out to Smith in an attempt to clear any misunderstanding, the customer allegedly told them to sue him should they hope to see their money again.
“We’re just out of money at this point and he told us to sue him so that is what we are going to end up doing, I guess,” the restaurant’s manager, Zachary Jacobson, told WNEP News.
“I hope that he owns up to his actions and comes forth and does pay this because you shouldn’t have done this if this was the end result.”
Jacobson also paid a tribute to Lambert saying she is a “hardworking” person who deserved every last dollar of the tip that she received.
